Roll to sheet

This type of lamination process is about converting flexible and mostly thin material on roll into sheets after laminating.

Materials that are often suitable for this type of process are:

  • paper
  • cloth
  • foil
  • plastic
  • linen

This process always contains a step when the material is being cut. We are experienced with many slitting techniques, such as:

  • razor cutting
  • crush cutting
  • shear cutting
  • hot cutting
  • guillotine cutting

Besides these slitting techniques it’s also possible to use simple straight knives for foils.

To finish the roll to sheet process, we developed different tools such as a stacking table and automatically changing cassettes for processing the finished product. With pick & place units we pick up the sheets and place them on the desired location.

Advantage

The advantage of a roll to sheet process is that the product is often directly cut to size. Therefore, the size of the product is less big and it saves weight so it’s easier for the next step in the production process.

Machines

Winder / Unwinder

The Crest wind up / unwind units are developed for handling various media. The units feature auto-tensioning and automatically regulated wind up speed for perfectly wound rolls. Crest also designs specific winders/unwinders for the handling of bigger rolls and weights over 1000 kg.

Winder Slitter Laminator

The Crest Winder Slitter Laminator is a heavy duty machine developed to laminate foam on a polyester base and slitting the materials to the correct size. Base materials are fed from ø1200mm big rolls (up to 500kg) by the unwinding units and are slit to the correct width by the slitting unit. After slitting, the materials are laminated. In order to optimize the material properties, a second laminating roller set is placed that stretches the material slightly and pressurizes it again. Before winding the laminated material, it can be slit to the correct width and in multiple strips.
